My oranges are so far away from the actual painting, it hurts, but on the positive side, my greens look ok :)

Concept and production art for the camera
Most of the design decisions are explained on the page, I quite like it with a few more adjustments it could be improved but the deadline is knocking on the door :)

WIM Final Scene
Adjusted some of the colours, added some more depth of field and bump mapped (and specular mapped where it looked good) the buildings. I did what I could really. :)
Just for comparison I left the older version on here too, it doesn't have texture in the sky and it really looks separated from the models in the foreground...

WIM Texture Sheets and linework
Spent most of the weekend adding lines to the texture sheets I printed (thank you Simon for the brilliant idea) and then scanned them back in, readjust their size and applied them to my buildings.
These are just three (the others seem to be too big for blogger). Since I was working on a very small scale I had to spend a looong time cleaning up the linework in photoshop.
This is how they look on the buildings (I was so surprised that everything worked properly). Every side of the buildings have variations in their texture so that when it comes down to rescaling, and duplicating they will look different.

WIM thumbnails 92 - 100
Using maya to create a quick scene and photoshop to colour the screenshots.
What I'm looking for is some feedback on the best angles and possibly colours (even though they are a bit basic, i know) so that i can start on my concept painting.
Thaaaaanks :)

Zoetrope ideas
I got a few ideas down on paper for the final project, but decided on one very quickly (I thought I am extremely original by thinking about a running reindeer zoetrope, but then I saw it from the previous years and my dream of seeing Rudolph running was shattered)
So I decided I will use my face as a base and add something festive to it. Using the same method as in the morph animation I started with the first frame and then the last, and everything in between was drawn after that (I say drawn, but all I used was photoshop really).

Final Outcomes, Invisible Cities
And here are my final paintings, starting with exterior establishing shot:
Exterior low angle shot:
And an interior shot:
For some very strange reason, the coulours are much more different on every other monitor I look at them, when I painted them they were saturated. Need to double check why this happens.

Octavia thumbnail
Visualising the city in perspective, not a lot of details I'm afraid. The city looks really murky I need to draw the attention of the viewer on it, but without the level of detail it really doesn't work at the moment. Feedback on the overall composition anyone?

Octavia overall design
Bit stylised but wanted it to be quick.
The reason behind this design is the height of the city. The shape collects the winds and directs them in the middle where the futuristic looking "windmill" transforms them into electricity.
Another perk for this shape is collecting rain water and the condensation of the trees, again gathered in the middle and filtered before send through the pipes.
My problem at the moment are the houses? Any suggestions?

New Octavia thumbnails
Based on my research I published yesterday, I did some thumbnails. I think they make much more sense than my previous ones.
1. Is a overview of Octavia with the buildings and houses.
2. Is a close up on the roof top water gathering trees.
3. A close-up on the "community building" and its entrance.
4. Is a more stylised version of the city.
Feedback is more than welcome :)

Brush texture and invisible cities
Since I got a good response for my life drawing sketch from Phil (Hi Phil :) )
I wanted to incorporate it with my project. So after a quick chat with Jordan today, I made the drawing into a brush for photoshop.
I love the texture it creates, at first glance it looks like a really good start for rocky surfaces and possibly with some additional editing, clouds/steam. I did a quick concept thumb for Octavia using only my mouse (what a rebel!), so ALL feedback is welcome.

Colour comps - Invisible Cities
I sketched a lot yesterday and finally decided to add some colour in the new thumbnails. Feedback will be much appreciated. :)

More thumbnails
A few more thumbnails from my sketchbook and digitally created. I picked some of them as my finalised thumbnails, although they do not cover the three concept painting view points.

Octavia - detailed thumbnails
I'm dreading the ones we need to do in colour, sorry I didn't number them but after finishing I could not look at the screen anymore :)

Spider-web city concept art
A quick concept sketch for the city I picked, first drawn in my sketchbook and then redone digitally:
Invisible cities - rest of the thumbnails for the Spider-Web city
The rest of my thumbnails, all of them are exploring the city I chose - Spider-web city.
Basically the more I sketched the more ideas I developed which was really interesting. Even the ones that do not look like anything in particular led me to some concept ideas.
I think the keywords after finishing the concepts are: crystals, snow, bones (husks), chains, northern lights and spider webs.
